Street Photography: #8 City Life

I went for the very first time in my life at City Life only a week ago. Probably I was the only one remaining in Milan who didn’t went in that district yet. CityLife is a residential, commercial and business district, under construction, situated at short distance from the old city centre of Milan, and its a big project with the goal of redeveloping the historic neighbourhood of the Fiera Milano.

The first fairground and exhibition facility in Milan was opened in 1906, as the area of a World's fair, and in time for the opening of the Simplon Tunnel (a railway tunnel which connect Brig, Switzerland and Domodossola, Italy). The fairground at that time extended over the current area and the nearby Sempione Park.

In 1923 the fairground, at that time called Fiera Campionaria, was moved permanently in the historical zone, of which Fieramilanocity now occupies a part.

The area is dominated by three huge skyscrapers, with names that remind me a lot of the “Good, The Bad and The Ugly”, a movie from Sergio Leone. Those skyscrapers names are; 1 The Straight one (Allianz Tower), 2 The twisted one (Generali Tower), 3 The Curved one (Libeskind Tower). You can find those towers in some of the picture I’ve taken on April the 5th, 2021. There are many areas still in construction but its clear that the project is gigantic. The mix between those architectures and the lack of people in the streets, made this place look a bit alien. I’ll definitely want to go back to explore and experiment more with this area.
