Really Right Food: #2 La Ravioleria Sarpi - Milan

If you are in Italy and you go through Milan, and you feel hungry for some Asian food, my advice is to go to Paolo Sarpi street. It is known as the center of the Chinese community of the city, it’s in the 8th district of Milan and is an important avenue for trade in general. Along the way you will find a bit of everything; from shops that repair technological items, such as mobile phones and televisions, to fashion shops, clothes, mini-markets, libraries, leather stores, silk stores, historic butchers, coffee roasters, and various restaurants. The Ravioleria Sarpi is one of them and has no seating, but works only as takeaway. They make three types of Ravioli, two based on meat, beef and pork and one vegetarian ravioli, as well as excellent crepes, also available with meat or vegetarians, spicy or not. They also produce a fabulous soy sauce that they sell in convenient jars lasting about a month, with two pieces of ginger inside that are a real delight. The ravioli can be eaten on the spot, hot and cooked at the moment, or while walking down the street or seated in one of the benches that you can find close to the restaurant. Otherwise you can buy portions of raw ravioli (each box comes with 8 ravioli in it) and cook them at home, in total comfort. Preparing them is very easy; just boil some water without salt (soy is enough to enhance the flavor) and let the ravioli cook for 7 minutes, serve them and eat them steaming hot. They are a real delight, believe me.
