At the helm of our own destiny
About ten days ago, we got together, as we try to do every two or three months, with the whole team (or almost everyone—we were missing five or six people). It's always really useful and refreshing to see everyone in person and meet the new people. Actually, I'd say it's absolutely necessary, even if it's just to create or strengthen human connections. For many of us, that's already the case. We've worked together on so many projects that by now we can work remotely without any problems. But every time someone joins the team, it's important to spend time together and get to know each other. It's good for everyone, both for the people who are already part of the team and for the newcomers. It helps build connections, makes relationships more personal, and reminds you that, at the end of the day, the people you work with are real. And it makes me really happy to know that people on the team also get together outside of work and build lasting friendships.
Anyway, toward the end of the day, we took a picture all together. I didn't think anything of it until I saw the photo after it was sent to me. It was incredible to see all those people together. There were around forty of us, right?
It blows my mind to think that less than three years ago, after leaving Ubisoft, I had nothing except a dream. Along with the other founders, I worked for about seven months without any salary or guarantees, building the foundations of what would eventually become Bradley the Badger. We've always been living on a razor's edge, like in Shadowrun. We secured the first funding that allowed us to build a vertical slice, and then we spent about nine or ten months looking for the right publishing partner before finally making our decision. We could have gone under, but we didn't. We're still here, fighting to make the game we want, exactly the way we want to make it, despite all the challenges the video game industry has been going through lately. We really chose the most difficult time possible to begin this journey, but here we are, with a game we believe in, an amazing team, and all the energy in the world to see it through, at the helm of our own destiny.
