Suspicious Mind
A couple of weeks ago, I told myself: “I really want to play Suspicious Minds on bass.” I love Elvis, and somehow I’d never learned any of his songs before. And I thought: “Come on, how hard can an Elvis bass line be?” Yeah… not even close. Never underestimate anything — especially bass players from that generation. The part isn’t technically difficult, but the notes are constantly changing. Tiny variations everywhere. And to me, those details matter. I want to learn every single choice made by real bass players, not weekend noodlers like me It was insanely fun to learn. And if I look super serious in the video, it’s because even though I tried to memorize it, it was basically impossible. The line keeps evolving all the time. In the end, I decided to record it while reading the sheet music Also, my amazing studio was sitting at 83°F (28°C) while I was recording this. You can actually tell from the way the light reflects off my forehead. I was slowly melting the entire time. Have a great day and have fun!
